How This Calculation Works

1. Enter total floor area in square feet. 2. Set the aisle and staging allowance (typically 40% to 50% for standard counterbalance forklifts, 30% for narrow aisle reach trucks). 3. Enter racking tiers (vertical beam levels) and standard pallet footprint (13.33 sq ft).

Worked Real-World Example

A 5,000 sq ft warehouse zone with a 45% aisle allowance has 5,000 × (1 − 0.45) = 2,750 sq ft usable footprint. With 4 vertical racking tiers and standard 13.33 sq ft pallet footprints: 2,750 ÷ 13.33 × 4 = 825 total pallet storage positions.
