How This Calculation Works

1. Enter trailer internal dimensions (standard 53ft trailer: 52.5ft L × 8.2ft W × 9ft H ≈ 3,850 cu ft usable). 2. Input total loaded pallets or cargo units and their average volume in cubic feet. 3. Review utilization percentage and remaining available cargo volume.

Worked Real-World Example

A 53ft trailer (approx 3,850 cu ft usable volume) loaded with 26 standard pallets averaging 110 cu ft each. Total cargo volume = 26 × 110 = 2,860 cu ft. Load utilization = 2,860 ÷ 3,850 = 74.3% cube utilization with 990 cu ft remaining capacity.

Assumptions, Tolerances & Limitations

Watch both volumetric cube capacity and gross vehicle weight limits (GVWR 80,000 lbs federal highway limit, approx 45,000 lbs max net cargo). High-density freight will "weigh out" before it "cubes out".
